Attic Insulation Removal

Before beginning any attic insulation project, the condition of the existing insulation and vapour barrier must be addressed. Most of the time, existing vapour barriers can be improved, and existing attic insulation can stay put. New insulation can then be added overtop. Occasionally though, the complete removal and replacement of existing insulation is necessary for various reasons.

Water

Intrusion of moisture into an attic can cause extensive damage to a home’s insulation, necessitating its removal. It is important to address leaking roofs before starting any insulation project. Contact us to connect you with one of our top-rated partnered roofing companies.

Mold

Even if the source of moisture intrusion has been dealt with, and the insulation has dried out, occasionally mold growth can be so extensive that insulation must be removed.

Pests and Rodents

Damage from pests and rodents can necessitate the removal and replacement of insulation. It is important to address areas where pests are entering the attic space and prevent future damage. Fixing holes in soffits, replacing broken roof vents and caulking gaps and cracks in siding can all reduce the likelihood of pests and rodents re-entering an attic space after replacing damaged insulation.

Asbestos

Many homes in Manitoba are insulated with a potentially asbestos‑containing product called vermiculite. In many cases, the best approach may be to leave the vermiculite in place and blow additional insulation overtop. However, in some cases, such as when dust from asbestos‑containing materials is entering the living space of the home, it is prudent to remove the material and start fresh.

We use a powerful vacuum to remove insulation from your attic. Damaged insulation travels down a vacuum hose directly into a truck or garbage bin outside so that it never has to enter your living space.

Once the damaged insulation has been removed, we can begin our 3-step attic insulation process, as outlined above in our Attic Insulation Retrofits section.
